The Stranger’s Spartan helmet and gas mask in the poisoned woods

METRO 2039 Equipment

Equipment is the difference between a shooter and a Metro game. The helmet is a sealed system. The watch is a timer you have to look at. The map is paper. If you skip this page and only read gun names, the surface will bill you for the arrogance.

Helmet and mask

The Stranger wears a battle-scarred Spartan helmet with integrated gas-mask elements, hinged visor and personal modifications. 4A used that exact in-game model for the Collector’s Edition replica, which is how we know the scuffs are canonical, not a render pass. In play, it is your airlock. Filters screw into that stack. When they die, you die. The survival guide is the user manual. The editions page is the shelf version.

Night vision, if it returns from older titles, has not been confirmed in 2039 previews we can cite. What has been confirmed is ordinary light as a double agent: you need it, and it gives you away. Do not assume an NV toggle will save a dark stair.

The bracer that replaced a HUD

Gamereactor described the bracer as countdown, Geiger and compass. IGN described a digital wristwatch revealed by tilting the gun. Xbox Wire described beeps near expiry. Together they are one object: a diegetic UI strapped to the arm. The filter timer copies the countdown so you can feel five minutes before you own the game. The controls page records the Y-to-inspect bind from IGN’s PC session.

Compass and Geiger matter on the surface, where thaw and radiation share a street. If the click races, you are paying air to stand still. Walk or die. The folio map — a physical booklet with handwritten objectives — is the other orientation tool. There is no laser pin. Map notes explain how to live with that.

If the digits are not part of your scan pattern, the rest of the kit is theatre.

Lighter, UV, logbook

The lighter burns cobwebs. It is also a flare. Xbox Wire enjoyed the animation and still treated light as a liability. Use it, kill it. The UV lamp is a detective tool: IGN followed writing that only existed under purple light. Empty-looking rooms in a Frozen Story level are often unread pages. Paint them.

Saves, in the Xbox Wire build, were a logbook X at the settlement exit. That is equipment in the same way a typewriter was equipment in old Resident Evil. Do not sprint past it. Hub equipment also includes benches — see crafting — and shopkeepers in Sevastopolskaya.

  • Spartan helmet — visor, mask stack, canonical wear.
  • Gas mask filters — lungs on a timer.
  • Bracer / watch — countdown, Geiger, compass.
  • Folio — map and handwritten jobs, no GPS pin.
  • Lighter — cobwebs and unwanted attention.
  • UV lamp — hidden writing, hidden crafts.
  • Logbook — confirmed save ritual in preview hubs.

Wear it like a ritual

Before a hatch: mask seated, filter fresh, watch checked, folio flipped, lighter full, UV reachable, pack dry. That checklist is how to play compressed into equipment. After a fight: knives retrieved, canister counted, medkit counted. Items is the stack. This page is the body.

4A has not posted an accessibility option that pins the watch to a corner of the screen. Maybe they will. Until they do, practice looking down. The Metro has always billed people who wanted a cleaner HUD.

Frequently asked questions

+ Is the Collector’s helmet usable in-game?

The replica is a physical product of the in-game model. It is not extra in-game DLC by itself. See editions.

+ How do I check remaining filter time?

Look at the watch. IGN used Y on keyboard to tilt the gun. Rehearse with the filter timer.

+ Is there a minimap on the bracer?

No preview describes a minimap. Orientation is folio plus compass. Read map notes.

+ Does the UV light cost power?

Not specified. Older Metro chargers are a series habit, not a 2039 confirmation. Treat UV as limited until a patch says otherwise.
