A Metro stair that must be read without a waypoint marker in METRO 2039

METRO 2039 Map Notes

If you are waiting for a minimap that draws a gold line to the next prompt, wait for a different shooter. METRO 2039 orients you with paper, a compass, and rooms that look like someone just left. Getting lost is part of the bill. This page is how to pay it on purpose.

The folio is the map

IGN and Xbox Wire describe the same object: a crude tablet or folio you physically raise. One side is geography. The other is handwritten objectives. There is a sense of direction toward the next job and no firm waypoint. Gamereactor said you can get your bearings but the map will not babysit the next step. Play that as a feature. If the gun is down and the paper is up, you are doing 2039 correctly.

The bracer adds a compass and a Geiger. Together they are enough to cross a street if you also look at the world. Frozen Stories are landmarks: a cracked window you already broke, a drugstore you already stripped, a statue of Hunter you already hated. Build a memory palace. The how to play guide is the ritual. This is the spatial half of that ritual.

Saves at hub exits mean the map also has a rhythm. You leave a known stamp — the logbook — into a fog of rooms, and you try to return. If you die, you will wish you had named the last intersection out loud. Do it. Metro players have always been narrators of their own corridors.

Named geography, August 2026

Moscow Metro, year 2039. Wilderness beyond the city where The Stranger was hiding. Irradiated surface streets. Station communities still using the old tunnels. Sevastopolskaya as a named hub in the Renegade trailer. A bandit hideout tied to Kaban in the Xbox Wire slice. A haunted school. A facility with Hunter’s training film. A sewer miniboss arena in IGN’s session. That is the public list. It is not a complete campaign graph.

Line names, transfer stations, and a printable network are TBA. Anyone selling a “complete 2039 Metro map” before launch is tracing 2033 onto a new plot. We will add stations when 4A or a retail pause screen prints them.

Hubs are the only places the map feels friendly. Stamp them in your head.

How to not get killed by navigation

Mark resources on the way out so you can find them on the way back: a filter crate, a dry craft floor, a window you can break for a shortcut. Light is a trail and a tell; see survival. Mutant families own some streets; see combat and surface. If the folio says “toward the hideout” and the Geiger screams, you may be on the correct political path and the wrong biological one. Detour.

UV writing is navigation too. IGN’s hidden scrawls are 4A putting a quest arrow in the world without admitting it. Scan walls that feel too blank. Frozen Stories hate empty plaster.

  • Raise the folio at every threshold, not only when lost.
  • Use Hunter statues and banners as ugly north stars in occupied halls.
  • Remember dry floors. Future-you needs them for the backpack.
  • Treat pharmacies as map pins. Air is geography.
  • Do not follow a scream if the watch is already orange.

What a launch map desk will add

After February 2027 we can screenshot the folio, list station names, and mark collectible rooms without inventing them. Until then this page stays a navigation lesson. Pair it with controls so the folio bind is not a pause-menu hunt, and with equipment so the compass is not a mystery glyph.

Frequently asked questions

+ Is fast travel in METRO 2039?

Not shown. Assume boots and hatches until a retail menu proves otherwise.

+ Can I annotate the folio?

Preview copy describes handwritten objectives already on it. Player scribbles are unpublished.

+ Does the compass point at the objective?

It is described as a compass, not a quest magnet. Combine it with the folio and your eyes.

+ Will this wiki post a spoiler map?

Not before a public campaign exists. After launch, major hubs only, with spoiler labels if needed.
