METRO 2039 Crafting and Blueprints
4A rebuilt progression around things you can hold. Blueprints upgrade guns and they come with lore stamped on the paper. Resources collapse to metal, chemicals and a rarer attachment stream. The backpack has to sit on the world. That last rule is the one that will kill people in sewers.
Two common piles, one rare pile
Xbox Wire’s favourite quality-of-life note is the simplified loot vacuum. You are not hunting gaskets in twenty drawer types. Metal and chemicals feed standard outputs: ammo, filters, medkits. A separate, rarer resource feeds weapon attachments — scopes, hilts, muzzles, the kit IGN kept snapping onto guns. Play that as three wallets, not a junk tab.
Filters and ammo are the same scavenger minute. If you always craft bullets, you will die of air. If you always craft air, you will die of a pack. The survival page and the combat page are the two mouths of this economy. Items lists the outputs without turning them into a fake tier list.
Workbenches from older Metro games are back in developer talk. Preview players also crafted from a dropped backpack in the field. Use benches in hubs like Sevastopolskaya for the attachment work you do not want to fumble under beeps. Use the pack on dry floors for emergency canisters.
Blueprints are story objects
Wccftech’s interview with 4A is the cleanest public note on blueprints: they upgrade weapons, they confer benefits, and they are not just UI stamps. Demo blueprints carried a well-known logo from the Metro universe. Read the paper. Frozen Stories apply to crafting tables too. A Hansa mark, a Spartan mark, a Novoreich mark — each one is a sentence about who armed whom.
Do not expect a Destiny-style seasonal craft board. 4A’s pitch is hand-authored. If a blueprint sits in a drawer beside a corpse, that is the author telling you how this gun arrived in 2039. The weapons page will grow attachment rows after launch; until then, treat every schematic as unique.
Terrain can forbid a craft
IGN’s miniboss in knee-deep sewer water is the teaching moment. No dry ground, no backpack, no emergency AP, no new filter. The fight ended on fumes because the designers allowed a breather afterward — not because the system is kind. Before you drop into a wet dungeon, craft as if the next hatch is a lockout.
That rule pairs with how to play: glance at the folio, glance at the watch, then glance at your feet. A Ranger who only manages HP is playing the wrong game. The filter timer will not craft for you, but it will remind you that five minutes is shorter than a greedy loot loop.
- Fill chemicals before a surface crossing; fill metal before a human den.
- Spend rare attachment parts on the gun you will actually carry, not a trophy.
- Craft on benches in hubs. Field-craft only the emergency.
- Read blueprint headers. The logo is lore and sometimes a warning.
- If you hear water, craft now.
What remains unpublished
Exact stack sizes, whether materials survive New Game Plus, whether workbenches can disassemble attachments, and the full blueprint list are TBA. Anyone posting a complete “best build” for a February 2027 RPG-shooter before the files are public is inventing. This wiki will add tables when players can screenshot them.
Until then, practice the physical grammar: pack down, craft, pack up, check watch, move. It is the same grammar as equipment and the same humility as combat. METRO 2039 wants your hands in the world. Give it that, and the numbers can wait for patch one.

Frequently asked questions
+ What resources does METRO 2039 use?
Preview coverage describes metal and chemicals for standard crafts, plus a rarer stream for attachments. Official names may change in the retail UI.
+ Can I craft during combat?
Only if you can set the backpack down. Water, panic and enemy pressure make that a bad bet. Pre-craft. See combat.
+ Do blueprints replace a skill tree?
4A has presented blueprints as the authored upgrade path. No public skill tree has been shown. Treat guns and schematics as progression.
+ Where should I craft filters?
On dry ground, preferably before you open a hatch. The survival page explains why the watch does not wait.
