METRO 2039 Weapons
4A still builds guns that look like they were filed together in a station workshop. METRO 2039 adds at least one new signature — the Shatun — and keeps the series rule that a pretty muzzle is worthless if you cannot feed it. This page is a camera log, not a leak dump.
What has actually been shown
The Hunter gameplay reveal is the first public look at the Shatun firing. 4A’s own description of that trailer lists it beside new mutant variants and new ways to use the environment. We do not have a magazine size, a craft cost or a slot on a loadout screen. We have a name and a function: a signature weapon meant to feel like Metro, not like a generic assault rifle skin.
IGN’s preview is the shotgun document. A double-barrel replaced a single-barrel early and became the close-quarters default in “dungeon” interiors. Attachments were not flavour: scopes, hilts, muzzles, the whole toybox. That is the crafting loop wearing a gun shape. If you only read this page, you will miss why metal and rare parts exist.
Throwing knives are the other confirmed star. They drop humans quietly. They come back from bodies. They come back from the floor if you miss. In a game that charges you for every crafted ball bearing, a reusable blade is an economy engine. Put that in your head next to combat, not next to a vanity skin list.
Sights, not reticles
Preview builds have no floating crosshair. You aim with whatever is on the gun. That will feel slow if you arrive from an arcade FPS. It will feel correct if you arrive from older Metro. The controls page is where the ADS bind will live once 4A publishes it. Until then, assume right-mouse and left-trigger still mean “look down the thing you built.”
The teaser in the middle of this article is short on purpose. Watch the silhouette of the weapons, the way they sit in the hand, the watch glow stealing the lower frame. 4A is selling weight. If a YouTuber overlaying a fake damage table on this footage contradicts the studio, trust the studio.
Ammo is a matchup
IGN’s list: rudimentary metal balls, incendiary rounds, armor-piercing machine-gun rounds. 4A’s interview: different weapons and ammo types perform differently against armored family members and special abilities. That is a STALKER instinct more than a Call of Duty instinct. Carry a mix. Do not empty AP into the first rat.
Pneumatic and handmade weapons defined earlier Metro. Exodus players will look for Tikhar and Helsing cousins. None of those names have been printed on a 2039 slide we can cite, so they stay off this list. If they return, they will be added with a source. Fan wikis that already rank them are guessing.
Human rooms and mutant rooms want different guns. A double-barrel that owns a corridor is a liability if you need a quiet knife on a balcony. Read combat for the decision tree, then come back here when you know whether tonight’s hatch is a den or a nest. Items tracks the rounds themselves.
- Shatun — new signature, seen firing in the Hunter reel.
- Shotguns — single and double barrel confirmed in preview, attachment-heavy.
- Throwing knives — silent, retrievable, economy-positive.
- Makeshift rifles — on camera in key art and combat stills, names TBA.
- Ammo — scrap, incendiary, AP; match the hide in front of you.
Loadout humility
You will not carry everything. Metro inventories are pockets, not warehouses. Pick a primary that matches the next street, a quiet option, and the throwables you can afford. Craft attachments on a bench in Sevastopolskaya or another hub, not while a nosalis is deciding if you are food.
The how to play guide is the parent of this page. A perfect Shatun still loses to an empty filter. Check the watch. Then check the chamber.
